Fragrance natural Patchouli oil

The botanical name or latin name of Patchouli oil is Pogostemon Cablin. The scent of this essential oil of dark Patchouli oil is sweet, rich, earthy, heavy and full of spicy, woody aroma.

It is one of the few essential oils whose scent improves with age, which is great because it preserves and even improves the scent over time.

This essential oil contains the chemical, patchoulene.
This substance is very similar to azulene which is the main component ofblue chamomile essential oil .

Patchouli oil is also called Patchouli oil and literally means ‘green leaf’.

When did Patchouli oil become popular?

In the late 1800s during the hippie years of the 60s and 70s, Patchouli became so popular due to its strong association with festivals that the leaves were shipped to Europe for steam distillation to ensure a sufficient supply. In the flower power era, Patchouli was a symbol of freedom and relaxation. At that time, the scent was often used to disguise the smell of Cannabis.

What is Patchouli oil used for?

From the mid-19th century, the scent of Patchouli was popular as an ingredient in perfumes. That is why Patchouli essential oil is also often used in perfumes. Patchouli is one of the most important raw materials available as an undertone for the perfumer.
The fragrance brings sensuality and depth to perfumes.
Many popular perfume scents contain patchouli oil. Even Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle contains patchouli oil.

In India, Patchouli was used to protect fabrics, clothes and shawls from moths and other insects. This contributed quite a bit to the popularity of the scent. Later, this Patchouli scent became the guarantee that the fabrics came from India.

 

Patchouli oil is widely used in cosmetics, incense, as a fixative in soaps and perfumes and even in the food industry in beverages to combat unpleasant odors. In Asian countries, the essential oil is used in a neutral massage oil.

Patchouli can be used effectively in foot baths, massages or in a skin oil.

Use Patchouli oil

The more drops are added, the stronger the scent is. So always start with a few drops and add more drops if necessary. The space in which the scent is spread also affects how the scent is experienced. If it is colder than 16 degrees, the scent will be less pronounced.

In the sauna

add 24 drops of patchouli oil to an ice ball or to the water in the sauna tub.

In an aroma burner

Add a few drops of essential oil to the water in an aroma burner. Always make sure there is enough water in the aroma burner. Do not let the oil burn in anyway.

On an aroma stone

Add 2 to 5 drops to the stone of the aroma stone and place the stone in the wardrobe to repel moths.

In a diffuser / air freshener

Add 4 to 5 drops of patchouli essential oil to the water in the diffuser. Always make sure there is enough water in the diffuser. View all diffusers .

In a massage oil, carrier oil or skin oil

Add up to 25 drops of Patchouli oil to 250 ml of Sweet Almond oil for a natural, relaxing massage or skin oil.

In a bath oil

Add 5 ml of Patchouli essential oil to 250 ml of Lavender bath oil or a neutral bath oil.

In a neutral shampoo

Add 5 ml of Patchouli essential oil to 1 liter of neutral shampoo.

Contraindication

• This essential oil is non-toxic, non-skin irritating and non-sensitizing.
• Do not ingest the essential oil pure or use it pure on the skin.
• Use the essential oil externally only and not during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Keep out of reach of children. Keep locked up.
• Do not use this product on irritated skin.
• Children do not like this essential oil because a few drops of patchouli oil are already quite heavy.

Patchouli oil mixes well with

The essential blends well with other essential oils such as Bergamot, Blue Chamomile, Cedarwood, Pine, Clove, Lavender, Rose, Sandalwood, Orange and Ylang Ylang oil.

Extraction of essential Patchouli oil

The Patchouli plant is a rough herb that belongs to the labiates like lavender and mint species. It is an aromatic, perennial plant that can grow up to 90 cm high. The Pogostemon Cablin (Patchouli plant) has a sturdy, hairy stem, large, fragrant, downy leaves and flowering tops of white-violet flowers in the summer.

The plant cannot tolerate full sun. That is why the plant is often planted on teak plantations in tropical Asian countries such as Indonesia. In addition to Indonesia, Patchouli is a native plant from India and the Philippines. Nowadays, the Patchouli plant is also grown in China, Malaysia and South Africa.

Water vapor distillation

We extract our Patchouli essential oil by means of steam distillation from the dried leaves of the Pogostemon Cablin plant from Indonesia. Patchouli oil has a dark orange to dark brown color. For 1 liter of essential Patchouli oil, 30 to 35 kilos of dried Patchouli leaves from the Pogostemon Cablin plant are needed. The essential oil is extracted by means of steam distillation.
